Meet the Team: Laura, Our New Recruitment Consultant

We spoke to Recruitment Consultant, Laura about her new role at DISH Hospitality.

What is a Recruitment Consultant? What do you do?

Basically, I source the right staff and place them in roles for clients. Eventually, I’ll be contacting new clients as well to offer our services in helping them to recruit.

How did you come to be Recruitment Consultant at DISH Hospitality?

I have previous experience in customer service, recruitment and hospitality – I actually worked with Eddy when DISH was his restaurant.

Eddy approached me a while ago with a job in hospitality recruitment but I had been offered a new desk in the position I held in education recruitment. I wasn’t sure about education recruitment at the time and the opportunity actually fell through. I decided to try the role at DISH and I love it. It’s the best of both worlds – it combines the world of hospitality, which I’ve been involved in since I was 15, but it doesn’t include the unsociable hours that hospitality sometimes brings which isn’t compatible with my current lifestyle.

How have you found your first few days at DISH? Is it how you expected it to be?

Really good! It’s great to be working with DISH and Eddy again, it feels very familiar.

What was your biggest challenge coming into the role?

Honestly, there wasn’t one! This job was a perfect fit for me and I don’t have any regrets taking it.

What are you excited to develop/learn?

Since I have experience in hospitality and recruitment there won’t be a lot of surprises. I am looking forward to liaising with multiple clients, though, to find out exactly what it is they’re looking for rather than just working at the one establishment.

What advice would you give someone starting a new job?

Keep an open mind, don’t go in with expectations, just take everything as it comes.

What advice would you give someone interested in a career in recruitment?

Again an open mind is important. Recruiting can be quite hectic but don’t let that scare you! As long as you can pick up the phone you can thrive in this career.

What advice would you give someone interested in a career in hospitality?

For someone aspiring to begin a career in hospitality I’d advise to get as much experience as possible – turn your hand to anything, everything is a learning opportunity!

What key skills are essential in your position?

It’s important to be personal and get to know someone and what they’re looking for rather than reading robotically from a script – this doens’t help you make good matches and the customer can tell!

Organisation is also key when you’re juggling a lot of roles and communicating with lots of people at the same time – I love a to-do list!

What makes DISH Hospitality a great place to work? Why is it different?

DISH is different to other recruitment agencies because it’s owned and run by a chef who knows the industry inside and out. Our recruiters know exactly what a client is looking for because they have experience working in hospitality themselves.

What exciting things are on the horizon for you and DISH?

Just expansion really, we’re excited to grow, work with more clients and get the DISH name out there.
